OPA love

My god-daughter turned one a week ago.  Her mother and I along with 6 other college friends had a thing for pink boas and flamingos.  Our close-knit group of friends enjoyed dancing at each other's weddings to Rescue Me by Wynonna Judd.  No matter how long we have been apart, it's like no time at all when we are together.  We can't wait to break out in song and dance one more time, but take your time to find Prince Charming.

Until then, I will make cute flamingo totes for the next generation of OPA gals.

I made a simple canvas bag, but spiced it up with a pink flamingo on the front.  Then I used extra black polka dot material to line the inside.

I have one more to make for July.  Then I have to wait for another OPA girl to be born...who's it going to be??

Ruffle Scarf

It all started with a couple of knitting needles and a spool of yarn.
An couple of mornings later this is what I came out with.

It was a relatively easy scarf to make.  Just 11 stitches per row and keep going until you reach the end of the yarn.  This was a different kind of "yarn" if you can really call it that.  It very easily would slide off the knitting needle, though.  I had to restart a couple of times until I got the hang of it.

Happy Valentine's Day

Yesterday we hauled 30 big round bales over 200 miles to my cousin's dairy farm.  We were selling hay that had never been rained on and stored in a shed for $80 a bale while they were buying hay for $180 per bale and it was not as good.  We decided to split the difference and sell the rest of the hay we had in the barn.  Derick spent a good afternoon loading the semi trailer and strapping the bales down. Then it took a couple days to get an oversized load permit.
You might notice one bale is greener than the others. It is a clover bale and the ones next to it are oats bales.
Here is a view of their farm up on the hill as we were getting ready to climb their steep driveway.  We were almost to the top when the wheels started spinning.  Luckily they found some traction and we crested the hill.

Where do you live??

We have a new sign to guide friends and family to our home.
My parents had this sign made at Outlaw Tee's, a local graphic design shop, for our Christmas present.  Then my wonderful husband created the metal work to support it.  He even used some curlicues from an old porch railing we had just lying around the farm. A coat of black paint and it was ready to go.  Thankfully the end of January was warm enough to dig a couple post holes and set it in place.   Now if spring would hurry up, I could spice it up with some flowers.

You might be wondering what that is at the bottom of the picture...it's just Ace.  I wasn't quick enough to get him in the picture.
